The results of a Public Service Employee Survey suggested there was some room for improving employee satisfaction, with employee engagement figuring prominently.

The AANDC wanted to create opportunities by offering digital forums to provide input and ideas to management using web 2.0 concepts. OPIN installed Highpoint to allow these ideas to come to fruition.

The AANDC Communication team thought that using an online platform for employees to connect with Senior Management would help facilitate some truly engaging conversations between employees who don’t always have an opportunity to directly access senior management. They wanted to create those opportunities by offering digital and what many considered less intimidating forums to provide input and ideas to management using web 2.0 concepts. Kevin Kruse notes in Forbes that Employee engagement is the emotional commitment an employee has to the organization and its goals, resulting in the use of discretionary effort. Ultimately, that will lead to an employee caring more and because they care more, they are more productive, give better service, and even stay in their jobs longer. 

OPIN developed and implemented a Drupal-based online engagement and consultation intranet to encourage and capture ideas, feedback and comments from employees. The key to its success would be in getting a response. No one wants to contribute to a great void. Using our platform, employees online contributions could be responded to by the most senior levels of management. The communications team organized specific times when upper management would be available for live discussions with their employees while allowing other users to post their thoughts, ideas, questions, and opinions to maintain and build on the discussions. Senior Management was able to capture this information while also having the data exported for reports to further analyze and better inform future decisions that would really resonate with employees and better respond to their needs.
